Coronation Street: Sam's crypto debt and stolen card anger Idris

Coronation Street's troubled teen Sam Blakeman (Jude Riordan) is caught red-handed trying to steal Idris Nazir's (Junade Khan) credit card to pay off a massive cryptocurrency debt, risking the wrath of the dangerous businessman.

Sam has been glued to his phone as a coping mechanism since his release from psychiatric care after a schizophrenia diagnosis. The battle to expose child predator Megan Walsh (Beth Nixon) took a severe toll on his mental health, pushed to breaking point by harassment and intimidation from the vile groomer.

Sam's secret crypto trading

Sam has been trading in cryptocurrency under his dad Nick Tilsley's (Ben Price) name. The tearful youngster explains that he took out a credit card in his dad's name and has racked up an eye-watering debt of over £6k – a debt Nick cannot afford to pay.

While Nick might stick by Sam no matter what, Idris may prove less forgiving given his past misdeeds in upcoming episodes. When Sam calls at Speed Daal after school, Leanne has big news – to prove how much she trusts him, she'd like him to work in the restaurant. However, Sam sees another way to make a fast buck when he spies Idris's credit card lying on a table.

Caught in the act

Sure enough, Sam emerges from Speed Daal clutching Idris's credit card. In the restaurant, the boy wonder settles himself at a table and is about to enter Idris's card details into the crypto app… when suddenly Idris appears behind him. Idris retrieves his bank card from Sam. Busted!

Deeply embarrassed, Sam explains how he was hoping to make enough money to pay both him back and pay off his debt to Nick. Whether Idris will be sympathetic or too ruthless to let this slight go unpunished remains to be seen, even where his girlfriend's son is concerned.
