Coronation Street fans are convinced that a seemingly throwaway line from DC Kit Green may have broken the fourth wall, hinting at more twists to come in the Theo Silverton murder storyline. The revelation comes after Monday's episode (June 22) appeared to confirm Sarah Platt as the killer, but sharp-eyed viewers spotted a possible clue that suggests the case is far from closed.
Kit Green's cryptic comment sparks theories
During a tense dinner party at Sarah's flat, Kit asked Gary Windass to help him prepare food. When Gary requested a bottle opener, Kit replied: "It's a twist." Some fans interpreted this as a direct nod to the audience, suggesting that the true identity of Theo's murderer may not be as straightforward as it seems.
A Reddit user commented: "It felt like [Kit] was breaking the fourth wall, talking to us, telling us to expect a twist in the reveal. So, I waited for the twist. Even when Sarah was on the roof with Theo, I was thinking... there's got to be a twist coming." Another viewer added: "Oooh interesting thought!" while a third speculated: "Maybe someone had already hit him over the head before Sarah? She did find him sitting slumped on the scaffolding."
The murder reveal and its aftermath
Viewers learned that Sarah killed Theo after he attacked her on scaffolding, using a metal pole in self-defence. Panicked, she called her ex-boyfriend Gary, who helped cover up the crime. The flashback was shown during the dinner party, which included Todd Grimshaw, Summer Spellman, Gary, and his wife Maria Connor. Maria accused Gary of having an affair with Sarah, leading to a chaotic end with chairs overturned and blood on the table.
However, some fans believe the twist might be that Sarah is not the killer after all. A fourth viewer echoed: "Maybe the twist will be that Sarah actually isn't the killer. Theo was actually alive and someone else came along later and finished him off."
Coronation Street airs weekday nights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
