Brian May surprised fans by joining Roger Taylor on stage at the Roundhouse in London's Camden on Monday, September 28, marking their first appearance together in over a year.
The Queen stars reunited for the final songs of Roger's show, which was the penultimate concert on his Violence Insane in a Beautiful World tour. The drummer has been performing around the country to support his latest album of the same name.
Emotional moments and political remarks
Earlier in the evening, Roger drew raucous cheers as he announced "f*** Trump" before launching into his recent single Chump, which is widely believed to be a protest song about the US president, although he has not confirmed this.
Brian had been captured on fan recordings arriving at the venue and watched the show from a VIP box. At one point, he became visibly moved as Roger performed These Are The Days of Our Lives.
Special renditions and Queen classics
The video for the song, written by Roger, holds a deeply emotional place in Queen history because it marked the last time fans ever saw frontman Freddie Mercury on camera. Filmed in May 1991, it famously ends with him looking directly into the lens and whispering, "I still love you".
Before Brian took to the stage, Roger treated the audience to a very special rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody by the Ndlovu Youth Choir. The South African group also accompanied him on two of his recent singles, A Beautiful World and Come On Summer (It's Party Time).
Reunion and new project
Brian made his appearance for Queen's foot-stomping, hand-clapping anthem We Will Rock You as the room erupted. When the song ended, Roger teased the crowd asking "Who the f**k is this then?" before introducing his lifelong friend. They shared an emotional moment on stage as they warmly embraced before breaking into Radio Ga Ga, which reached number 3 for Queen in 1984. Brian then joined Roger and his band to take final bows before exiting the stage.
His appearance came just hours after the legendary guitarist had announced his latest project - a red special gin which will launch on October 8.
