Call of Duty: Black Ops 1 and 2 Coming to Modern PlayStation Consoles
Black Ops 1 and 2 Ported to PlayStation This Summer

Call of Duty: Black Ops fans have received some very welcome news, as Treyarch has confirmed that the iconic first two games in the series will be ported to newer PlayStation consoles this summer.

Surprise Announcement from Treyarch

The developer, a subsidiary of Call of Duty publisher Activision, made the announcement via social media on Wednesday, June 17. Treyarch stated it is partnering with Iron Galaxy to bring the games back to life. Iron Galaxy most recently developed Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 + 4 for PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch, and has a history of working on high-profile ports and remasters, including bringing Skyrim to the Switch.

What's Included in the Ports

A Treyarch spokesperson said: "It's official: the original Black Ops and Black Ops 2 are being ported to PlayStation in July, courtesy of our partners at Iron Galaxy. Both will include Campaign, Multiplayer and Zombies."

The announcement solves a long-standing issue for PlayStation owners. While Xbox players have been able to enjoy the classic titles for some time through backwards compatibility, PS4 and PS5 gamers have missed out. It is yet to be confirmed if the original Black Ops and Black Ops 2 will land as native ports on PS5 or if they will be for the PS4 with backwards compatibility.

Fan Reactions

Regardless, the news has excited Call of Duty fans who yearn for the quality of older titles. Gamers have taken to Reddit to express their views. One commented: "Multiplayer and Zombies on Black Ops 1 and 2 are literally some of my best gaming memories of all time." Another Redditor said: "Multiplayer on these two games was amazing, would take me back to the good old days." A third wrote: "OMG IVE BEEN WAITING FOR YEARS." While plenty questioned the lack of a Switch or Switch 2 port, the news has been warmly received.
