EA has announced a major Top Gun crossover event for Battlefield 6, set to launch on August 18, 2026, as part of the second half of Season 4. The event will introduce new vehicles, characters, and modes inspired by the Tom Cruise film franchise, according to Battlefield Studios.
Season 4 Naval Warfare Focus
Season 4 of Battlefield 6 kicks off on July 21, 2026, with a heavy focus on naval warfare. The update includes massive water-based maps that are designed to support new attack boat vehicles and provide a proving ground for air vehicles, setting the stage for the Top Gun crossover.
New Game Modes: Carrier Strike and Fighter Sweep
Battlefield Studios has revealed two new game modes for the crossover. The first is Carrier Strike, a reinvention of the popular Carrier Assault mode from Battlefield 4's Naval Strike DLC. Described as having a 'Top Gun twist', Carrier Strike requires players to cooperate across land, sea, and air to destroy the enemy aircraft carrier's defences. The team that sinks the enemy carrier first wins the match. It remains unclear whether players will need to board the carrier and arm M-COM stations as in the original mode.
The second mode is Fighter Sweep, a Top Gun-inspired addition to the existing Gauntlet mode. This mode features high-intensity dogfights using brand new two-seater fighter jets.
Cosmetics and Characters
Battlefield Studios has confirmed that players will be able to obtain Top Gun-inspired cosmetics during the event. An official description states: 'During this special event, players will have the chance to obtain Top Gun-inspired cosmetics to fly their colors in the sky.' While specific cosmetic items have not been detailed, the mention of 'characters' has led to speculation that operators based on Tom Cruise or Miles Teller may be included.
Release Timeline
Season 4 begins on July 21, 2026, with the Top Gun crossover event launching on August 18, 2026. Battlefield Studios has promised to reveal more details about the event closer to August.
