Soap opera star Paul Avery and his wife Sheila have tragically died in a house fire, leaving their daughter devastated. Paul Avery was best known for his 12-year role as bartender Hughie on the US soap opera All My Children. He also appeared in the 1978 Superman film and shows like Tales from the Darkside and Soap. Beyond acting, Avery was a journalist who founded the Ridge View Echo newspaper.

Family Statement

Their daughter Kyle Avery confirmed the deaths in a heartfelt Facebook post: "I'm devastated to share that our parents, Paul and Sheila Garry Avery, passed away early this morning. We loved them so much, and they loved us so much, and nobody ever had to wonder if that was so. We're grateful to the Blairstown Fire Department for their efforts. Service plans to follow."

Investigation Underway

The New Jersey State Police are investigating the cause of the blaze. The Ridge View Echo reported the news, and tributes have poured in. Colleague Joe Phalon called Avery "the most interesting man in the world," citing his acting, skydiving, Vietnam service, and newspaper work. Local resident Kevin Martin recalled Avery as a natural pilot who was a familiar weekend presence.
