London's 100 Club venue is to charge 1976 prices for two nights to celebrate the 50th anniversary of its Punk Special, which featured early performances from The Sex Pistols, The Clash and Siouxsie And The Banshees.
Entry set at £1.50 for anniversary gigs
Entry to the Oxford Street club will be £1.50 on September 20 and 21 as Manchester rockers Maruja and Irish punk band Sprints perform alongside special guests on each night.
Jeff Horton, owner of The 100 Club, said: “In my personal opinion, punk is the most important genre and subculture that the UK or anyone else has ever produced or invented, and its longevity is testament to that.
“The list of good it’s done is endless.
Owner hails punk's lasting influence
“When you consider the background of despair, racism, poverty and sexism it grew from, it’s carried the flag for and supported people that need it continuously and that is why we have chosen the line-up we have on September 20 and 21 2026 to celebrate 50 years of this incredible subculture and genre.
“Call it what you like, its distinct values, style, incredible music, fashion and ethos set it apart from mainstream culture and these bands perfectly reflect what punk means in 2026.”
Original event launched British punk movement
Featuring then unsigned bands, the 1976 Punk Special is considered one of the launch pads of the British punk movement. Other acts included The Damned, Buzzcocks and Subway Sect.
In the crowd on those nights were The Jam singer Paul Weller, The Pogues' Shane MacGowan, The Slits' Viv Albertine, and fashion designer Vivienne Westwood.
Maruja added: “We are absolutely honoured to be involved in commemorating one of the most important events in the punk movement.
“To play at the legendary 100 Club all these years later with the energy of the history in the room, it’s going to be a really special night.”
Venue's storied history
The 100 Club has also hosted performances by The Rolling Stones, Sir Paul McCartney, Metallica, Oasis, and Weller.
