Ghost trains and city monsters: Halloween weekend in Greater Manchester
Ghost trains and city monsters: Halloween weekend in Manchester

After last weekend’s stormy weather halted the full launch of the annual Monsters In The City takeover, the creatures will all be up and in place this weekend for visitors to discover. The varied line-up of monsters will be dotted around buildings and on rooftops across Greater Manchester, with full locations and details available.

Lunar Installation and Theatre Shows

Following its recent visit to Trafford Palazzo, Luke Jerram's Museum of the Moon has set up base at Campfield Studios (M3 4NN) in Castlefield. Suspended and internally lit, the seven-metre moon replica features highly-detailed NASA imagery and is backed by a surround sound composition from Duncan Speakman and Sarah Anderson. The installation is free to attend.

Several shows are on this weekend, offering everything from laughter to drama. King Lear is playing at the Royal Exchange, while Taskmaster star Maisie Adam brings her Whatsherface stand-up show to HOME on Saturday. Until Saturday, Waitress is at The Lowry.

Music and Sport

Manic Street Preachers and Suede are joining forces at Co-op Live on Saturday night, whilst local ice hockey heroes Manchester Storm take on the Cardiff Devils at the AO Arena on Sunday.

Halloween Parties and Ghost Trains

Albert’s Schloss, on Peter Street, will conclude its seven nights of ‘Sin City’ with a weekend of cabaret, DJs and more. Between 12.30pm and 3.30pm on Saturday, visitors can enjoy 90 minutes of bottomless drinks as they watch a 'Halloween Kabaret' full of performances and surprises. No ticket is required but booking is recommended.

For more Halloween celebrations, the East Lancashire Railway in Bury will offer trips on its Ghost Train. Halloween itself will also see Bongo’s Bingo host their Ghouls Just Wanna Have Fun party at Albert Hall (adults only), whilst the all-day Halloween party on Saturday at Electric Shuffle, on Deansgate, will feature costume competitions, shuffleboard, and bottomless brunch options. More family-friendly events are happening throughout the city and nearby too.
