Dolly Parton tops Halloween costume list for 2026

Dolly Parton has been named Britain's must-wear Halloween costume this year, topping a new survey of fancy dress choices. The country star, who died aged 80 in August, leads the list with 14% of the vote, ahead of novelty political figure Count Binface on 12%.

Top Costume Choices

Count Binface, the alter ego created by comedian Jon Harvey to contest UK elections, is tied with Ariana Grande's Glinda from Wicked. Claudia Winkleman, presenter of Celebrity Traitors, takes fourth place with 11%.

Creepy Netflix series Stranger Things also features strongly, with a Demogorgon monster and lead character Eleven, complete with hospital gown and bleeding nose, both making the Top 10.

Traditional Outfits Falling Out of Favour

The research, conducted by Beavertown, found that Brits are tired of traditional Halloween outfits like ghosts, vampires and zombies, preferring costumes inspired by politics, music and hit TV shows. The old-school witch, with pointy hat and broomstick, is now seen as the most dated look, with 46% saying it is out. The humble ghost, a white sheet with two holes cut out, is also considered naff, with 45% snubbing it alongside vampires and skeletons.

Gen Z's Enthusiasm

Marketing Director Sophie Higgins said: "We know Brits want to go all-out and are bored of seeing the same predictable looks each year." She added: "We're inviting Londoners to stick their neck out and let our team of SFX artists turn you into a work of art. It's time to stand out this Halloween."

Gen Z are the country's biggest costume fans, with 41% of 18-to-29-year-olds saying they cannot get enough of Halloween fancy dress.
