Merseyside is packed with events this August bank holiday weekend, from family fun days to beer festivals. Highlights include the UK's biggest dance festival, Creamfields, and the return of the Southport Air Show.
Festivals and major events
Creamfields takes place in Daresbury, Cheshire, from Thursday, August 27 to Sunday, August 30. Around 80,000 people are expected to attend, with acts including Swedish House Mafia, Calvin Harris and Fatboy Slim.
The Southport Air Show also returns this weekend, with the Red Arrows set to perform on both days.
Knowsley events
Camp Knowsley at Knowsley Safari is in its final week, offering bushcraft activities, campfire cooking, survival challenges, nature trails and creative crafts. Admission includes the experience, with details on the Knowsley Safari Park website. Kirkby town centre hosts the Marvellous Market on Saturday, August 29 from 9am to 4pm, featuring handcrafted products from local makers. Admission is free.
Bowring Park in Huyton holds its first music festival on Saturday, August 29 from 10.30am, with local performers including Drama Kids, Tribe Performing Arts, Cav "Spirit of the City", DJ Darcie Bennett, Sean Mack, Caitlyn Eve, John Riley and Every Single One of Yas, and Toy Car. There will also be craft sessions, food, and stalls from local businesses.
A family fun day themed around The Wizard of Oz takes place at Huyton Village Centre on Saturday, August 29 from 11am to 3pm, with performances, storytelling, stilt walkers, crafts and a Yellow Brick Road trail.
Liverpool events
Chavasse Park at Liverpool ONE hosts Beach Fest, an urban sandy beach with rides and activities, running until bank holiday Monday. Admission is free, with charges for some activities.
Camp and Furnace hosts an All Day Funk, Soul, Motown and Disco party on Saturday, August 29 from 3pm to 8pm, with tickets from £13.45.
Karen's Karaoke takes place at Ten Streets Social on Saturday, August 29, described as a "high-energy, comedy-led karaoke party night".
Brad Kella, winner of Channel 4's The Piano, performs at St George's Hall on Saturday, August 29, with concerts at 2pm and 7pm. Tickets include access to the Minton Tile Reveal.
Hill Dickinson Stadium hosts its first drive-in cinema this weekend, with films including Finding Nemo, Mamma Mia!, Grease, Back To The Future and a special Everton screening. The bank holiday Monday screening of Howard's Way operates on a pay-what-you-want basis, with donations going to Everton in the Community.
The Bluecoat hosts the Simply Vibrant Makers Market on Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 4pm, with handmade goods from local artists.
Sefton events
The Space Safari Drone Light Show comes to Aintree Racecourse on Saturday, August 29, featuring hundreds of synchronised LED drones and narration from Michaela Strachan.
S&Beer Festival returns to Southport and Birkdale Sports Club for its fifth year, running from Friday to Monday with live music, street food and 64 barrels of real ales and ciders.
The Antique and Collectors Fair takes place at Aintree Racecourse on Sunday, August 30 from 9am to 3pm.
St Helens events
The International Festival of Glass returns from August 28 to 31 at The World of Glass, with demonstrations, exhibitions and other activities.
Wirral events
Ricky Tomlinson appears at the Floral Pavilion on Saturday, August 29, discussing his life and career with host Asa Murphy.
The Jurassic Park Family Fun Day takes place at The Grange in Moreton on Sunday, August 30 from 1pm to 5pm, with bouncy castles, food and craft stalls.
New Brighton Continental Market returns from Friday, August 28 to Monday, August 31, with international stalls, activities, food and crafts.
The Wirral Tattoo Extravaganza returns for its second year at the Floral Pavilion on Sunday and Monday, featuring tattoo artists, vendors, live music and competitions.
