London Fashion Week has once again proven its unique appeal, bringing together an eclectic mix of celebrities, from Jerry Hall and Romeo Beckham to Prue Leith and Lucy Bronze. The event showcased a diverse range of talent, with Hall starring in a short play for jewellery brand Completedworks, while Beckham and Leith made their catwalk debuts for H&M and Vin + Omi respectively.
The weekend's headliners were all women, reflecting the matriarchal nature of London's fashion scene, in contrast to the male-dominated fashion weeks in Milan and Paris. Designers such as Simone Rocha, Emilia Wickstead, Roksanda Ilinčić, and Edeline Lee took centre stage, celebrating female creativity and leadership.
Roksanda Ilinčić marked 20 years in the industry with a collection inspired by sculptor Barbara Hepworth. The designer, whose dresses are worn by Michelle Obama and Cate Blanchett, incorporated pebble forms and references to the River Calder into her designs. Despite the bittersweet milestone, Ilinčić expressed pride in her achievement, noting the challenges faced by many of her peers.
Emilia Wickstead, who recently dressed the Princess of Wales for a state visit, drew inspiration from photographer Robert Mapplethorpe for her collection. The designer explored a edgier side, incorporating choker-wrapped silk ribbons and double denim, while maintaining her signature elegance.
Simone Rocha continued to push boundaries with her signature bows, pearls, and lace, insisting her femininity is 'definitely not conservative'. Her show featured chunky Croc sandals with diamante straps and a rose-printed cardigan paired with a sequin bra top, blending sweetness with a touch of Studio 54 glamour.
