Queen Camilla has revealed she was a devoted fan of the BBC series The Night Manager, leading to a light-hearted encounter with its star Tom Hiddleston in 2016. At the time still Duchess of Cornwall, she met the actor at BBC Radio 2 headquarters and greeted him with: 'Hello, Night Manager, how are you?'
Joking about the show's six-episode run, which had just concluded, Camilla added: 'Sunday nights aren't the same without you.' Hiddleston responded by saying he 'apologised unreservedly' for the series ending. The Queen then asked about a potential return, to which Hiddleston quipped: 'Well you never know. We will have to ask John Le Carre [the writer].'
During their chat, Hiddleston broke royal protocol by putting his arm around the Queen, who did not seem to mind. 'I'm sure I'm the envy of all the ladies,' she joked as she walked away. The Queen is likely pleased that the show returned for a second season this year, a decade after the first.
Hiddleston, who attended Eton at the same time as Prince William, has also met the Prince and Princess of Wales at the premiere of War Horse. He is an ambassador for the King's Trust and delivered a message on behalf of King Charles in 2024.
