Meghan Markle made a new appearance at Variety's Power of Women gala in Los Angeles last week, wearing a beige off-the-shoulder maxi dress by Proenza Schouler. The dress, named 'Rosa', is a one-shoulder draped matte viscose crepe design, retailing for £1,114. She paired it with a black clutch bag and Aquazzura's 'Dangerous Liaisons 105' black suede pumps, which cost £695, along with dainty gold jewellery.
However, the colour choice did not impress some royal fans, who branded the dress 'bland and boring' on Instagram. One user commented: 'Looks bland and boring and beige. Lipstick matches it, does nothing for her.' Another said: 'She looks fantastic and fresh but I do not love this color on her, maybe in black, it would've looked more elegant.' A third added: 'I love the dress but would love to have seen it in another colour... I find the colour to be a bit blah.'
The Duchess of Sussex has previously spoken about her preference for neutral hues, explaining in the Netflix docuseries 'Harry & Meghan' that she chose muted tones to blend in with the Royal Family. She said she opted for camel, beige, white and other muted shades to avoid standing out and to prevent 'embarrassing' The Firm.
