Premium beauty brand Laura Mercier has launched a new tinted blur balm, promising a balm-to-powder finish with smoothing peptides and light-diffusing pigments. The product, priced at £39, comes in eight matte shades and is designed to blur imperfections while providing a long-lasting, natural look.
Beauty journalist Helen Wilson-Beevers, who has over 16 years of experience and used Laura Mercier for her wedding make-up, tested the balm over two days. She wore it for an evening out and during a long day at work, assessing coverage, skin feel, buildability, and finish.
The balm, presented in a gold compact with a mirror, feels creamy and veil-like on the skin without greasiness. It contains peptides, squalane, and vitamin E-rich camelina sativa seed oil, offering nourishing benefits. Unlike some powders, it did not cling to fine lines or dry patches, providing a smoothing layer that can be built up for more coverage.
Wilson-Beevers found the balm creates a matte, velvety effect that looks natural even after several layers. She suggests using it over foundation for added smoothing or as a gentle under-eye concealer, though it does not fully cover blemishes. The product stayed put throughout an evening out and was easy to top up during the day.
Impressed with the natural finish and subtle coverage, Wilson-Beevers notes the balm is multi-tasking, serving as a lightweight base, concealer, finishing layer, or contouring product. While she usually prefers full-coverage foundation, this powder-balm formula has earned a place in her daily routine.
