Two fashion writers with contrasting styles visited the new Karen Millen store at Liverpool ONE and found two occasion dresses suited to different tastes: a floral cape dress and a black ruffle maxi dress. Both were praised for their fit, fabric and versatility.
Floral cape dress impresses
One writer, who usually avoids florals, was drawn to the Floral Print Crinkle Cross Front Georgette Woven Maxi Dress at £179. The dramatic cross-front bodice and gathered waist detail cinched her in, while the cape overlay could be styled over the shoulders, behind them, or both.
She noted the dress felt heavy and luxurious without being too bulky or hot, and the floral print was striking but not garish. At 5'3, she found the dress quite long and would need tailoring or extra tall heels.
Black ruffle dress offers understated glamour
The second writer chose the Cotton Ponte Jersey Ruffle Hem Maxi Dress at £119. It features a form-fitting silhouette with a scoop neckline and thin straps, cascading into asymmetric layers of ruffle down to the hemline. She described it as effortless yet glamorous, with a smooth, luxurious material.
She struggled to find her size (XS) in store but found it before leaving. At 5'4, the length was perfect, and straps can be adjusted to elongate the torso. The dress is available online in sizes XS to L, also in red, which she said would provide a striking look for a wedding abroad.
Karen Millen has officially returned to Liverpool ONE, housed in the TFG London store at 5 South John Street alongside Phase Eight and Whistles. The brand is known for its iconic cape dresses with built-in flowing overlays.
