Sir David Beckham has paid an effusive tribute to his wife Victoria after she was awarded a French knighthood, amid an ongoing family rift with their eldest son Brooklyn.
Victoria Beckham, 51, was named a Chevaliere de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French Ministry of Culture, recognising her contributions to fashion as a form of art. The ceremony took place in Paris on Monday, with David, their children Cruz, Romeo, and Harper in attendance, but notably without Brooklyn.
Sharing photos on Instagram, David wrote: “We are so proud of you and all that you have achieved @victoriabeckham. Being named a Chevaliere de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres… nobody deserves it more than you.”
In her speech, Victoria said: “I’m so proud to be British but France is one of the few places fashion is treated with the seriousness it deserves, as a form of art.” She also thanked her husband David as her “original investor”.
The tribute comes after Brooklyn, 26, publicly accused his parents of trying to “endlessly ruin” his marriage to Nicola Peltz in a series of Instagram posts last week. He claimed his wife had been “disrespected” by his family and expressed no desire to reconcile.
