A couple from Cornwall have proven that a dream wedding doesn't have to break the bank, hosting their outdoor nuptials for under £3,500. Sharron and Chris Whyte tied the knot at a camel farm in May 2019, with the bride wearing a £28 dress purchased on eBay.

The 32-year-old bride and her husband Chris, 36, invited 60 guests to their budget-friendly celebration. They saved money by opting for a vegan menu, which cut their food costs by more than half, and by making or sourcing most decorations for free. The groom's jacket cost just £25.

Sharron, who was pregnant with their son Rowan at the time, said thinking outside the box was key. She found the venue by checking the council website for licensed wedding locations. 'When we first booked the venue, we didn't have any money saved up,' she said. 'We just thought, right, this is how long we've got to do it, this is how much we need to pay off each month, and we managed to do it.'

Friends and family also helped keep costs down. A friend provided hair and makeup services, another made the cake, and Chris's mother crocheted personalised bunting. Sharron added: 'I think people would be surprised how willing other people are to help out if you tell them your situation. I think they'd rather you get married and have a nice day than put yourself into lots of debt for it.'

The couple, who are both outdoor enthusiasts, wanted a laid-back atmosphere. After the ceremony, guests enjoyed picnic blankets in the garden. Sharron, who had a traditional wedding before, said: 'Second time round, I thought, let's do what I want to do and not what people tell you you should do.'
