A bride reportedly had a screaming match with her cousin after the guest wore a sky blue dress to her beach wedding, accusing her of trying to steal attention. The guest, who shared her story on Reddit, said she chose the midi dress for the seaside setting but was confronted by the bride, who claimed she was trying to 'one up' her.
The guest told Reddit: 'I wore a sky blue cocktail dress to the wedding because it was a beach wedding so I thought it would be nice to wear that, but my cousin got mad. She accused me of trying to one up her in her own wedding and trying to steal the attention.' The guest added that she wore no jewellery or heels to avoid any perceived competition.
The argument escalated into a 'screaming match', with the aunt, uncle and the bride's partner having to separate them. The guest left the wedding to avoid further drama. Her immediate family supported her but chose not to get involved.
Reddit users largely sided with the guest after she shared a photo of the dress, describing it as 'perfectly appropriate' for a beach wedding. One commenter said: 'If that's the dress, I can't see a single thing wrong with it. It's so obviously not white and it probably was not even part of the bridal party's colours.' Another added: 'That dress is literally a basic beach wedding guest dress.'
Some speculated the bride might have worried the pale blue dress could photograph as white, but most agreed the reaction was excessive. One user suggested the bride could simply edit the guest out of photos if needed.
