Vicky McClure is back as bomb disposal officer Lana Washington in the fourth series of ITV drama Trigger Point, which airs tonight. The actress has revealed the physically demanding shoot took its toll, saying she was "knackered" after the action-packed scenes.
Physically Demanding Scenes
Speaking to Bella magazine, McClure said: "I was knackered! There's a lot of running on Trigger Point, and I've made it quite clear that I don't go to the gym, but I do enjoy being active, and I just knuckle down as much as I can to make the stunts look realistic."
Although she describes herself as "young-ish", McClure admitted she didn't see herself taking on action-packed roles in her early 40s. She said she's "proud", adding she'll always "have a go" and promising viewers some "wild explosions" ahead.
Filming During Heatwaves
Recording during Britain's scorching heatwaves presented additional difficulties. "I try to make sure we have a happy set. I did make sure we had ice cream trucks every now and then, but it was a hot shoot," she said.
"Weirdly, it kind of adds to the show... when you're filming big explosions and catastrophes in the heat of the London summer, it adds to that sense of pressure."
Future of the Series
McClure says the programme's future depends on the audience. If a fifth series is commissioned, she said the team would need to make it "even bigger and better" - as viewers "deserve".
She also hinted at what viewers can expect from Julie Graham's new character, Commander Nia Quentin. McClure told Digital Spy that Graham arrives and "commands the room".
"Lana quickly identifies that, and feels that she's possibly in the safest hands she's been in, because the red tape that falls down in front of her just crushes any sort of decision that she wants to make," she said.
"Sometimes she goes: 'I'm just gonna ignore that because people could die.' Whereas there is a very quick belief that Julie's character has faith in Lana. If you have faith in her, then she will react accordingly and that's what we pick up on quite quickly."
Trigger Point airs on ITV tonight (Sunday, August 30) from 9pm to 10pm. The series also stars Eric Shango and Nabil Elouahabi as Danny and Hass, Natalie Simpson as DS Helen Morgan, and Maanuv Thiara as DCI Batra.
