Netflix Star's 'Twisted' Mummy Remake Sends Fans into Frenzy for 2026
Twisted Mummy Horror Remake Sends Fans into Frenzy

Horror fans are in a state of high excitement following the release of a chilling new trailer for an upcoming remake of The Mummy, which is being described as a bold and 'twisted' retelling of the classic story.

A New Vision from a Modern Horror Master

This latest attempt to resurrect the iconic franchise is in the hands of filmmaker Lee Cronin, who is writing and directing. Cronin previously directed the critically acclaimed Evil Dead Rise, which featured Stranger Things star Nell Fisher, and the 2019 film The Hole in the Ground.

The project is a collaboration with the renowned horror production company Blumhouse, the team behind hits like the upcoming Weapons. This partnership signals a clear intent to deliver 'a terrifying new version' focused on genuine scares rather than large-scale action sequences, a shift that is delighting horror purists.

Returning to Supernatural Horror Roots

The film's plot marks a distinct departure from recent, more adventure-oriented versions. The official synopsis reveals a haunting story: the young daughter of a journalist vanishes without a trace in the desert. Eight years later, she is shockingly returned to her fractured family, but what should be a joyous reunion quickly descends into a living nightmare.

The newly released trailer offers a first glimpse, featuring disturbing imagery including mysterious figures lurking in shadows and a body horrifyingly reanimating within a coffin.

A Stellar Cast and a Long Cinematic Legacy

The cast includes Jack Reynor, known for the Netflix limited series The Perfect Couple as well as The Peripheral and Midsommar. He is joined by Laia Costa, May Calamawy, Natalie Grace, and Veronica Falcón.

This is far from the first time The Mummy has been reimagined. The franchise began with the original 1932 film, spawned sequels, and inspired Hammer Films' 1959 series starring Christopher Lee. It is perhaps best remembered by modern audiences for the Stephen Sommers-led adventure series starting in 1999, which featured Brendan Fraser and led to spin-offs like The Scorpion King.

The most recent major attempt was the 2017 Tom Cruise film, which was intended to launch Universal's 'Dark Universe'.

Fan Reaction: 'The Mummy Movie I've Been Waiting For'

Reaction to the trailer has been overwhelmingly positive, with fans expressing enthusiasm for the horror-centric approach. One fan commented online, "Finally! I always believed instead of remaking the epic adventure movie again, they should take it back to its roots as a supernatural horror movie like the original 1932 version."

Another added, "This is the Mummy movie I've been waiting for. The teaser looks amazing. Mummy movies should be horror movies, not action movies." A third praised the director, stating, "Looks amazing!!! Can’t wait, Lee Cronin is a modern horror master!"

The Mummy is scheduled for release in cinemas from 15 April 2026.
