Channel 4 viewers were left utterly devastated by the concluding episode of Tip Toe, which aired tonight. From the beginning, the drama had hinted at a savage act of violence through flash-forwards, but the full horror was only revealed in the final moments.
The Plot Unfolds
The series centered on Leo (Alan Cumming), a single gay bar owner, and Clive (David Morrissey), a married father and electrician, who had been neighbors for 15 years. Their peaceful coexistence shattered over one fateful week, escalating into a violent confrontation no one anticipated.
The final episode's tragic chain of events began when Zee (Iz Hesketh), who later changes her name to Flo, took Clive's son George (Jackson Connor) for a night out in Manchester's Gay Village. The pair drank excessively, and photos of 16-year-old George with a striking makeover were shared.
The next day, George faced aggression from Roddy (George Miller) at a football viewing party. Zee tried to intervene, but George insisted he could handle the taunts. Leo also stepped in, but his involvement only worsened tensions. Moments later, Clive saw unexpected images on TV, exposing his eldest son's online sex work and his youngest son's night out. Clive was then ridiculed for helping an assaulted drag queen, with Roddy implying an affair.
The Brutal Attack
In a desperate attempt to reclaim his masculinity, Clive and his football mates attacked Leo, fatally hanging him from a lamppost outside his home. The group fled, leaving Clive in disbelief.
Channel 4 audiences were stunned, flooding X with reactions. One viewer posted, "The last episode of Tip Toe is one of the most horrific things I've ever seen. I am in bits." Another said, "They warned us, but nothing could prepare for the dehumanization and pack mentality." A third wrote, "The last 15 minutes are some of the most harrowing I've seen." Reddit users described it as "traumatic and mentally scarring."
Aftermath and Epilogue
The show revealed the fates of the characters: most involved in Leo's death were convicted as accomplices to murder, with sentences reduced on appeal. Roddy received life, and Clive a mandatory life sentence. Marie Goss (Pooky Quesnel), George, and Saul moved and changed surnames. George faced drug convictions, while Saul married and had children. Zee became a teacher, and Melba drank heavily for life. Leo's bar, Spit and Polish, became a pizzeria. The final caption read, "Leo's story isn't over. It keeps changing. Within 18 months, a search for his name says: Leo Struthers, convicted paedophile."
Tip Toe is available on Channel 4.
