US pop singer Sabrina Carpenter and The Substance actress Margaret Qualley will star alongside Tom Holland in a biopic about American dancer Fred Astaire.
Carpenter, 27, known for her songs Espresso and Taste, will play Hollywood star Ginger Rogers opposite Spider-Man actor Holland, who will play Astaire in the untitled film, according to reports by Deadline.
Rogers and Astaire's Dance Partnership
Rogers, who won a best actress Academy Award for Kitty Foyle in 1941, starred alongside Astaire in a series of popular song-and-dance films throughout the 1930s and 1940s, including Top Hat, Swing Time and The Barkleys of Broadway.
The pair became known for their on-screen dance partnership which often featured complicated routines.
Carpenter's Career and Casting
It will be Carpenter's first starring film role since the release of her hit song Espresso in 2024, although she began her career as an actress on the Disney Channel and has previously featured in films including Tall Girl, The Hate U Give and Emergency.
She recently won her first Emmy after appearing in The Muppet Show special on Disney+.
The singer will reunite with Qualley, known for The Maid and The Dog Stars, after they featured in her 2026 music video for House Tour.
Qualley and the Creative Team
Qualley, 31, will join the cast as Adele Astaire, who performed alongside her brother throughout the 1920s on Broadway and in the West End.
The biopic, to be directed by Paddington and Wonka filmmaker Paul King, is based on the book The Astaires: Fred And Adele by Kathleen Riley.
Holland began his career as a dancer in the 2008 West End production of Billy Elliot The Musical.
He stars as Peter Parker in Marvel Studios' Spider-Man franchise and appeared opposite Anne Hathaway and Matt Damon in Sir Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey earlier this year.
