Rylan Clark has jokingly threatened to sue the BBC after spotting a similarity between his own teeth and those worn by dancers for the UK's Eurovision act. The former X Factor star, known for his distinctive porcelain veneers, noticed the dancers' costumes featured teeth that resembled his own.
Speaking on BBC Radio 2, Clark said: “Our dancers costumes…actually, I’m going to sue the BBC, they’ve used my teeth. That is my likeness and I know what I’ve copyrighted.” Eurovision host Graham Norton joined in the joke, saying he “has a table at home” and would join the legal action. Clark quipped: “Me, Graham and Ikea are onto the lawyers as we speak.”
The UK’s entry this year is musician Sam Battle, known as Look Mum No Computer. He will perform at the Eurovision Song Contest in Austria. The UK has not won the competition since 1997, when Katrina and the Waves triumphed with “Love Shine a Light”. Last year’s entry, Remember Monday, finished 18th out of 26.
Clark, who spent £25,000 on veneers before later having them removed, admitted he regretted the move. He said the teeth drew so much attention that no one noticed his presenting skills when he started on Big Brother’s Bit on the Side. “All people did was take the p**s out of my teeth… by the time they stopped talking about my teeth a few months later, I'd got better at the job,” he said.
Meanwhile, Eurovision co-star Angela Scanlon praised the UK act, saying: “There’s something really exciting about an act that feels completely original… Eins, Zwei, Drei has personality, energy, and that slightly unpredictable edge that Eurovision audiences love.” Bookmakers have placed Look Mum No Computer at 120-1 to win.
