Fans of Ryan Murphy, the mastermind behind American Horror Story, Netflix's Monster, and Scream Queens, have a new series to anticipate. Based on the best-selling novel by Bret Easton Ellis, The Shards promises a summer of suspense, seduction, and obsession. Set in 1980s Los Angeles, the teen crime drama follows a group of privileged high school seniors at an elite prep school as they navigate identity, sex, jealousy, and obsession while a serial killer known as The Trawler targets teenagers across the city.
Star-Studded Cast
The series boasts an impressive cast. At the heart of The Shards is actor Igby Rigney, known for The Midnight Club, Midnight Mass, and The Fall of the House of Usher. He plays Bret, an aspiring writer and keenly observant teenager whose reality begins to unravel when mysterious new student Robert Mallory arrives. Robert is portrayed by Homer Gere, star of Euphoria and son of Richard Gere.
Adult roles are filled by Wes Bentley as Terry Schaffer, Evan Rachel Wood as Liz Schaffer, and Steven Reindhardt as Jordan Roth. Bentley is best known for playing Jamie Dutton in all five seasons of Yellowstone, while Wood is famous for her role as Dolores Abernathy in Westworld. Roth is a Tony Award-winning producer.
Joining Bret's elite social circle are Susan Reynolds, played by supermodel Cindy Crawford's daughter Kaia Gerber; Debbie Schaffer, portrayed by singer Hayes Warner; and Thom Wright, played by newcomer Graham Campbell.
Release Details
The Shards premieres on Thursday, August 6, on Disney Plus. It is unclear whether all 10 episodes will be released at once or on a weekly schedule. The series is co-created by Ryan Murphy and Bret Easton Ellis, author of The Shards and American Psycho.
