Robson Green's New BBC Detective Series: The Northumbria Mysteries

Robson Green is set to star in a brand new crime drama for the BBC, and it sounds gripping. The actor, known for his role in ITV's Grantchester, will play Joe Ruby in The Northumbria Mysteries, a detective series following an "unlikely crime-solving duo."

What Is The Northumbria Mysteries About?

Part of the BBC's initiative to commission and develop opportunities in the North East, The Northumbria Mysteries officially entered production in April. Slated to premiere on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, a release date has yet to be determined. The BBC has shed some light on what's to come. According to the broadcaster: "Robson Green will star as Joe Ruby: a jack-of-all-trades whose life has been shaped by mistakes, regrets and missed opportunities, alongside Oxford-educated DI Rose O'Connell (casting to be announced), a rarefied intellectual, a deep thinker with a brilliant mind and an ice-cool disposition."

In a classic odd-couple pairing, Joe and Rose combine their talents as they frustrate, confound and ultimately surprise one another while unravelling a series of compelling crime mysteries.

Robson Green's Excitement for the Series

Taking to Instagram in March, Green posted about his latest project. "So proud to be part of this new series set against the stunning, dramatic and spiritual backdrop of Northumberland," he told fans. "It's a show for everyone who's ever made mistakes, but who haven't given up just yet! And just when you as the audience think you've solved the crime, you haven't. High-end drama created and produced in the North East of England."

Production and International Appeal

Production on the series commenced in April. Simon Cox, EVP of Content & Acquisitions at Banijay Rights, raved: "The Northumbria Mysteries is a distinctive, atmospheric crime drama that pairs compelling storytelling with the striking backdrop of North East England. As a powerful addition to Banijay Rights' burgeoning scripted slate, we're excited to bring this character-driven detective series to international audiences, bolstering our focus on premium, globally resonant drama."

The series is expected to rival other popular detective shows like Grantchester and Silent Witness, offering a fresh take on the genre with its unique setting and dynamic duo.
