A fake news report claiming that Hollywood actor and director Robert Redford had died has been dismissed as a 'sick hoax' by his publicist.
The false tweet, posted by an account called Sky Breaking News, claimed the 79-year-old had died after falling from a golf buggy in Santa Monica, California. Tributes poured in on Twitter before the story was debunked.
Publicist Cindi Berger confirmed the star is alive and well. 'This is a sick hoax. I just spoke to him and there is no truth to this whatsoever,' she said.
The account has previously posted false death reports about other celebrities.
Redford is best known for his roles in films such as All the President's Men and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. He also founded the Sundance Film Festival in Utah.
