Richard Osman has accidentally revealed the start date of the second series of Celebrity Traitors. The former Pointless star, 55, was at a live recording of his The Rest Is Entertainment podcast with Marina Hyde and rugby player Joe Marler, who appeared in the castle earlier this year.
Embargoed date slipped out
It's reported that he asked Joe if he had any advice for the upcoming group of contestants, and he said: "What is it, September 23, the next series?"
Then, Richard replied: "By the way, to point out, it’s absolutely embargoed that it starts on September 23. Let’s talk about what we call the events of September 23 this year … the cat’s out of the bag, isn’t it? Not to repeat it." A BBC spokesperson declined to comment.
Celebrity lineup and format
The BBC have not confirmed an official date yet for the return of Claudia Winkleman's hit programme, but a host of famous faces have signed up to appear in the Scottish castle.
Set in a castle in the Scottish Highlands, the game follows the celebrity contestants – the majority of whom are known as Faithfuls – as they try to seek out the murderous traitors among them, who kill off players in the middle of the night.
Towards the end of last year, comedian Alan Carr, who competed as a Traitor, emerged victorious from the series and walked away with a five-figure sum for charity.
This time around, viewers will see the likes of comedian Joe Lycett, former Game of Thrones star Bella Ramsay, singer James Blunt, comedian James Acaster, broadcaster Amal Rajan, model Jerry Hall and Coronation Street legend Julie Hesmondhalgh all battling it out in the game of wits.
They are joined by social media star King Kenny, singer Leigh-Anne Pinnock, presenter Maya Jama, comedians Rob Beckett and Romesh Ranganathan, and actors Miranda Hart, Michael Sheen, Myha’la, Richard E Grant, Ross Kemp, Sebastian Croft and Sharon Rooney.
Autumn return expected
This series of the Celebrity Traitors is set to return in the autumn but a release date has not been set yet. In the trailer, the BBC simply said it was "coming soon". Fans are expecting an October release.
The trailer reveals close-up shots of anxious and petrified expressions from the participants. Before sweeping out of the chapel, Claudia delivers the line, "Thoughts and prayers," followed by, "Who doesn't love a dramatic exit?".
