Ben Miller has confirmed that two further series of the ITV crime drama Professor T have already been filmed, offering reassurance to fans who endured a lengthy wait for the current series.
The 60-year-old actor appeared on This Morning on Wednesday, August 26, joining presenters Rylan Clark and Josie Gibson to discuss the show's return. When Rylan asked whether the next two series had been filmed, Ben simply replied: “Yes.”
US ahead of UK in release schedule
Rylan then noted that the US appears to be ahead of the UK in the show's release schedule. Ben explained: "We're a bit ahead in America and catching up here. It's just the way it's fallen here, we've ended up falling a little bit behind."
He added that the upside for fans is knowing there are already more episodes waiting in the wings. "So I suppose the good side is, if you find a show and you enjoy a show, you know there's more coming," he said.
Fans frustrated by long wait
The update comes after Professor T finally returned to UK screens last Wednesday, following a wait of more than two years since series three concluded. While British viewers have only just begun watching the fourth series, US audiences were able to see the episodes last year when they aired on PBS.
Ben also revealed earlier this month that the show's fifth series would be available to American viewers to stream ahead of its broadcast premiere. His announcement that all six episodes would be available early in the US on PBS Passport and PBS Masterpiece on Prime Video sparked frustration among some UK viewers.
At the time, fans took to the comments to question why they were still waiting for series four when it had already been shown in America. One viewer said they had only just discovered the UK was "a year behind the States", while another pointed out that British audiences still had not seen the fourth series despite its earlier release elsewhere. A further fan branded the lengthy wait "ridiculous", making it clear that viewers were eager to see the Cambridge crime drama return.
However, Ben's latest comments appear to offer some reassurance, confirming that fans can expect at least two more series of Professor T. This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV1.
