Peter Davison, best known for his role in All Creatures Great and Small, has joined the cast of the fourth series of Channel 5's cosy crime drama The Good Ship Murder. The show, often compared to Death in Paradise, follows former police officer turned cruise ship entertainer Jack Grayling, played by Shayne Ward, as he solves mysteries aboard a luxurious Mediterranean cruise ship.
Peter Davison's Role as Eddie Grayling
Davison will portray Eddie Grayling, Jack's father, described as a "smooth-talking, streetwise silver fox." After 35 years as a detective in Serious Crimes, Eddie remains sharp and brings his old-school policing methods to help his son when the ship encounters trouble. The synopsis highlights their father-son dynamic as they form a crack crime-solving duo.
Cast and Characters
Fiona Allen (Smack the Pony) joins as Captain Serena 'The Iceberg' Teller, a formidable figure who strikes fear into her crew but occasionally reveals a personal side. Meanwhile, Catherine Tyldesley, who played First Officer Kate Woods, will not return as a series regular but will make a special appearance in the season four premiere.
Guest stars for the new series include Richard Blackwood, Anita Dobson, Matthew Kelly, Rula Lenska, Debra Stephenson, Neil Stuke, and Ram on Tikaram.
Production Insights
Davison praised the "brilliant, tight-knit team" and his chemistry with Ward, saying, "Eddie Grayling is a delight to play, and Shayne and I have relished establishing a father-son dynamic." Greg Barnett, Channel 5 Commissioning Editor, expressed excitement about the new cast members, promising "hugely dramatic and entertaining" episodes.
Seasons 1-3 of The Good Ship Murder are available to stream on Channel 5.
