Newcastle actor Ryan Nolan is set to appear in the new Prime Video drama Kill Jackie alongside Oscar winner Catherine Zeta-Jones. The series premieres on Saturday, October 3, and follows the story of cocaine dealer-turned-art seller Jackie Price, played by Zeta-Jones, who is targeted by elite hitmen after 20 years in hiding. Nolan appears in episode five in a scene set on a Swansea council estate.
From call centre to red carpet
Nolan, from Arthur's Hill, landed the role after taking a break from a new call centre job to audition. The 30-year-old said he was "literally on day one of a new call centre job when the audition for Kill Jackie came in, but I knew I’d regret it if I didn’t prepare for the role 100%."
He added: "To land this part after Covid and the actors strike feels like a culmination of a lot of hard work over the past few years, because it came at a time where I was worried if I should keep working for it."
Star-studded cast and director
The show also stars Bill Paterson, known for Auf Wiedersehen, Pet, Inside No.9, and Shetland, and is directed by Damon Thomas, who directed the global hit Killing Eve. Nolan praised the experience: "The whole episode was contained, and so everyone needed to be on top of their game - but it was so cool to watch actors of that calibre work in real-time."
He added: "I also had a fantastic experience with the director, Damon, and my character of Aled was a dream to play. When I first saw the script, it felt as though I was picking up something that read like Killing Eve meets Gavin and Stacey, and I really enjoyed it."
Previous credits and stage return
Nolan is no stranger to the spotlight, having appeared in the music video for Sam Fender's track "The Borders" and in Sam Mendes' film 1917. He will soon be seen on stage at Newcastle Theatre Royal in Our Friends in the North.
