Dimitri Tiomkin's score earned a Golden Globe for Best Original Score, and the film won the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture – Drama.
The film's success led to a sequel, Force 10 from Navarone, released in 1978, though it did not match its predecessor's achievements. The Guns of Navarone is considered one of the landmark big-budget Second World War epics, alongside The Longest Day and Where Eagles Dare.
