Netflix has confirmed that House of Guinness, the critically acclaimed drama filmed in Greater Manchester, will return for a second season. The announcement comes after fans waited nearly a year since the show's release.
The eight-part series, created by Peaky Blinders writer Steven Knight, was released in September last year. It follows the family behind one of the world's most famous drinks, set in 19th-century Dublin and New York.
After the death of Sir Benjamin Guinness, his adult children Arthur, Edward, Anne and Ben battle to become the face of the beverage nicknamed 'the black stuff', in a plot that has drawn comparisons to Succession.
Manchester locations used for filming
Manchester's Northern Quarter doubled for 19th-century New York in the drama. Back streets including Dale Street, Tarriff Street, Paton Street, Back Piccadilly and China Lane were transformed for a week of filming.
Production designer Richard Bullock said: "The crew built the ballroom and drawing room on stage in Manchester to become the core interior spaces.
"The ballroom was used for both weddings and the funeral wake, so we had to design it with flexibility in mind. The drawing room became the heart of the family drama — the private space for personal conversations.
"The ballroom, on the other hand, was the public face — where the Guinnesses entertained. Creating those two spaces with different functions, but connected, was a really nice process."
Cast and soundtrack details
Film studios in the city were used to recreate the real Iveagh House in Dublin, now the Irish Foreign Office. Some scenes were also filmed in Stockport.
Like Peaky Blinders, the series featured a soundtrack of modern songs despite its historical setting, with tracks from Irish artists including Fontaines DC, Kneecap, Thin Lizzy and Gilla Band.
The cast included Anthony Boyle, Louis Partridge, Emily Fairn, Fionn O'Shea and Niamh McCormack, alongside Seamus O'Hara, Michael McElhatton, David Wilmot, Dervla Kirwan, James Norton, Jack Gleeson, Danielle Galligan and Ann Skelly.
Season 2 confirmed with returning cast
Netflix has now confirmed that House of Guinness has been renewed for season two, teasing that the family will deal with their spouses, lovers, foes and friends.
Creator Steven Knight said: "It was such a joy to bring the Guinness story to the screen, so I'm beyond thrilled to be continuing the story of one of the world's greatest dynasties into Season 2.
"I can't wait to dive deeper into these characters and their complex relationships as they expand the Guinness empire."
Boyle, Partridge, Fairn and O'Shea are all confirmed to reprise their roles as the bickering siblings, while Norton's family fixer Sean Rafferty will also return.
