Netflix has confirmed that a spin-off to the hugely popular sci-fi series Manifest is in the works. Arrivals: A New Manifest Mystery has been greenlit by the streamer and will expand the world established in the original show.
In true Manifest tradition, Netflix shared the news on 28th August, or 8/28 for those in the USA, as a reference to the fated Flight 828 in the original show. Posting on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, Netflix posted an image of the first page of the script for episode one of the new show.
Original creative team reunites
Alongside the image was the caption: “Prepare for ARRIVALS: A NEW MANIFEST MYSTERY, an upcoming series set in the Manifest universe that reunites the original creative team: Jeff Rake, Laura Putney, and Margaret Easley. Coming soon to Netflix.”
Addressing the news, Manifest’s creator Jeff Rake told Netflix’s Tudum: “I’m delighted to be able to tell a new story for the Manifest fans out there and also for a brand-new audience.”
He went on to say: “It’s been five long years since we showed up on Netflix, and there’s probably half a generation who has never heard of Manifest.” Adding: “We’ve tried to thread the needle in a way that’s rewarding for the OG Manifest fans, but also equally rewarding for people who are brand new to the show.”
New cast and storyline
As per Deadline, Arrivals will be set in the same universe as the parent series. However, this time there will be a new cast of characters and storylines.
The outlet goes on to state that the Arrivals follows the crash landing of a “mysterious” aeroplane in Denver. The passengers emerge from the accident with no memory of who they are and where they came from, let alone why they’re even there.
A newbie Homeland Security agent works with a social worker to try and get answers from the new arrivals. Thrown into the mix, they will be trying to avert a “humanity-ending catastrophe” and are very much part of the puzzle they’re trying to solve before time runs out.
Fans relieved after long wait
Netflix’s announcement will come as a relief to fans, who have been desperate for news about any follow-up shows after Manifest wrapped up airing in 2023. Arrivals was already in development in 2024 and the writers room opened at the latter end of 2025, now the hunt is on for directors.
There were rumours about Manifest returning with a spin-off, but Netflix refused to confirm anything until the auspicious date of 28th August. But it looks like fans can now rest easy knowing that more will be coming from the Manifest universe.
The Manifest fandom was put through quite the wringer after the show was cancelled by NBC in 2021 after three seasons and left the story on a startling cliffhanger that demanded a resolution. Netflix eventually picked up Manifest and gave the show a fourth and final season, split into two volumes over 20 episodes.
