Michaela Strachan's Life: Husband Split, Pop Career, Cancer

TV host Michaela Strachan will appear on BBC quiz show Bridge of Lies this evening (June 13), alongside I'm A Celebrity star Scarlett Moffatt, BBC Radio 2 presenter Owain Wyn Evans, and Rickie Haywood-Williams from BBC Radio 1. The celebrities hope to win cash for their chosen charities as they face the Bridge of Lies, presented by EastEnders legend and documentarian Ross Kemp.

Michaela Strachan's Sad Split from Husband

Michaela has been married twice and was first wed to filmmaker Duncan Chard in 1996. However, the couple divorced five years later in 2001. Chard's work includes directing nature shows like Secrets of Wild India (2012), Terra Mater (2013), and Atlantic: A Year in the Wild (2020). Reflecting on the breakdown of her first marriage, Michaela told The Telegraph in 2016 that she had never been "someone desperate to have children" but later changed her mind. "It was quite a fundamental difference between us and it ended the marriage," she explained.

Michaela is now with her partner Nick Chevallier, and the pair have been together since 2003, welcoming their son in 2005. The couple lives with their son and Nick's children from a previous relationship.

Michaela Strachan's Surprising Jobs Before Presenting Career

Prior to finding fame as a TV presenter, Michaela briefly worked as a kissogram, delivering messages for surprises on special occasions, sometimes sealed with a kiss or dressed in costume. She also worked as an Avon lady, selling beauty products door-to-door. Additionally, she had a brief pop career under the stage name 'Michaela', releasing two singles: H.A.P.P.Y. Radio in 1989 and Take Good Care of My Heart in 1990, which reached 62 and 66 respectively on the UK Singles chart.

She eventually found fame on children's TV as part of Wide Awake Club and Wacaday. Since then, her career has flourished, making her a British national treasure. She was a runner-up on series 17 of Dancing on Ice and regularly appears on BBC's Springwatch and Winterwatch, as well as magazine shows like Morning Live, This Morning, and ITV's Lorraine.

Michaela Strachan's Heartbreaking Cancer Battle

Michaela is a breast cancer survivor and an ambassador for Breast Cancer Now. She underwent a double mastectomy in 2014, posting on X (formerly Twitter): "In Feb I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I was lucky, I found it early." She revealed in an interview with the Daily Mail's You magazine that she underwent the procedure under doctors' advice. The star admitted that when she found out, "the tears started to roll" and she "only took in every fifth word or so." She said: "For years I've carried the label 'ex-anorexic'; no doubt that will now change to 'breast cancer patient'. But we all have challenges to face in our lives. We all have curve balls thrown at us."

Bridge of Lies airs on BBC One tonight at 5.40pm.
