The Duchess of Sussex is still in high-level talks to take on a role in the new series of Netflix's The Gentlemen, despite reports that she had been dropped after a public backlash.
It has been reported that Netflix bosses are keen to find a spot for Meghan, but nothing has been finalised as yet. A TV source said: "Her return to acting is expected to draw a large audience of both her supporters and critics, and is likely to make a lot of money."
U-turn after axing claims
The u-turn comes after esteemed royal author Tina Brown claimed Harry's wife had been dropped, saying: "The backlash was so intense it became untenable to go forward."
It was claimed that Meghan was in talks to play the role of a temptress in the Netflix crime hit, which first hit screens in 2024 and was advertised with the slogan "every heir needs a spare", echoing Harry and his brother, next in line to the throne, William.
Return to the UK
Meghan, Harry and their two children will be returning to the UK soon, with Harry wanting to spend more time with his father King Charles, who is known to be battling cancer. It is expected any deal to sign her for the show would be worth over £1 million.
Markle, 45, was most famous for portraying Rachel Zane in Suits prior to her marriage to Harry in 2018. She appeared in more than 100 episodes of the programme before declaring her retirement as she began her journey within the Royal Family.
Family moving back
When stepping away from her acting profession, the former Tig blogger remarked: "I don't see it as giving anything up, I just see it as a change. It's a new challenge."
Bronte Coy of News.com.au said: "What they want to do, their style of modelling moving forward, is to do the commercial things so that that then funds the other side, so obviously this is not going to be a burden on taxpayers."
Bronte added: "People close to Harry said that he was very keen to continue this style of tour. Now that obviously was going to encompass the UK."
Prince Harry and Meghan are believed to be looking at moving into a private, non-royal residence outside London, with the pair's children, seven-year-old Prince Archie and five-year-old Princess Lilibet, enrolled to start at school in the UK in September.
