Meghan Markle is considering attending Paris Fashion Week again now that she is living in Europe, the Daily Express understands. A source told the Daily Express that she is keen to use the event to make her public debut since the big move.
They said: “She’s keen to go alone and hold her head high. Meghan deliberately hasn’t attended an event in the UK yet; she’s been holding out for the perfect time, and Paris offers that.” Although Meghan has shared a glimpse of her life since arriving back in Britain at the end of August on Instagram and was spotted at a Cotswolds pub, she has yet to make any official public appearances.
Royal experts discuss the Duchess's plans
This topic, and several others, were discussed by royal editor Emily Ferguson and commentator Carole Malone in the first episode of Royals Unscripted, the Daily Express’s new YouTube and podcast series, which aired at 7 am on Thursday, October 1.
The insider told the Express' Royal Editor that the Duchess of Sussex is feeling a little cautious after the backlash she got last year, after it emerged she had not actually been invited to attend. “She has been invited through official channels,” they said, refusing to comment on reports she engineered her attendance last year, but added: “She’s been weighing up whether to go because of the timing.”
Last year's appearance called a 'bit of a disaster'
Meghan went to Paris Fashion Week last year, wearing a white suit and dramatic cape at Balenciaga. The Express' Royal Editor called last year's appearance a "bit of a disaster" for the Duchess on the latest episode of Royals Unscripted. Ferguson and Malone discussed how the Duchess also came under criticism when a video emerged of her appearing to laugh when a model took a tumble on the catwalk.
Meghan also posted a video on Instagram filming herself relaxing in a limo as the car drove close to where Princess Diana was killed. Her spokesperson later denied that Meghan laughed at the model and did not film near the Pont d’Alma tunnel.
Commentator predicts controversy
Carole Malone said on the first-ever episode of Royals Unscripted: "I suspect she'll be there. It's interesting that she's going alone not with him. She went alone last year. She crashed it [Fashion Week] last year. The designer himself said that she hadn't been invited but she had rung him and asked if she could come along and help him out."
She added: "I can't imagine she'd be invited by a couture house because I don't know what good it would do them. Everywhere she goes there's controversy and trouble. When she goes to something she wants to be the center of attention and I think she probably drew attention away from the Balenciaga fashion show itself by just being there and that's what happens everywhere she goes."
Meghan, Harry and their two children made a surprise return to the UK at the end of last month and announced they plan to live in Britain for an "extended" period. Their children are now schooled in Britain. The family arrived back in the UK on August 26 and landed at Birmingham Airport after six years living in Montecito, California.
