Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are facing criticism after the release of their new film, Cookie Queens, which has been dubbed a box office flop. The documentary, which follows four teenagers selling Girl Scout Cookies, earned approximately $354,000 (£261k) during its opening weekend, according to Box Office Mojo.

Commentators Question the Couple's Appeal

Speaking with Fox News Digital, royal commentator Kinsey Schofield suggested that the couple had lost their footing in Hollywood and beyond. "There was a period when simply attaching their names to something guaranteed enormous curiosity. I'm not convinced that's true anymore," the YouTube host said.

Schofield pointed out that the film had made less money than CatVideoFest 2026, a fan-made compilation of cat videos. "There's no getting around the optics of finishing five places behind a 70-minute compilation of internet cat videos. Hollywood can forgive a lot, but being beaten by 'CatVideoFest' is the sort of indignity that writes its own punchline," she added.

Infamy Doesn't Equal Commercial Success

Schofield concluded that while Meghan in particular holds a certain level of infamy, that doesn't necessarily equate to commercial success. "People may click on a Meghan Markle headline because they're fascinated by her or irritated by her. That doesn't mean they're going to buy a movie ticket because her name is attached to the project," she said. "'Cookie Queens' gives us another interesting data point on that distinction."

Schofield isn't the only broadcaster to reflect on the couple's box office performance. Fellow commentator Richard Fitzwilliams told Fox News that the Sussexes' "huge hits" stemmed from their "infamous betrayals" of the Royal Family, including their tell-all Oprah Winfrey interview, Netflix docu-series, and Harry's memoir, Spare.

Netflix Series Also Struggled

Fitzwilliams remarked that audiences weren't interested in Meghan and Harry's various Netflix series, such as With Love, Meghan and Polo. He mused that when it comes to the couple's publicity, "It's all about buzz and nothing else, save their link with real royalty."
