Mayra, the mother whose newborn daughter was kidnapped by Alejandra Mendoza in Mexico, has spoken out about her feelings towards the convicted woman, saying she has "no sympathy" and that she does not think she can ever forgive her.
The Kidnapping and Its Aftermath
In the Netflix documentary A Child of My Own, Mayra recounts how Alejandra approached her in the hospital ward disguised as a social worker conducting surveys, and took her baby while Mayra briefly stepped away to use the bathroom. The infant was hidden in a gift bag and later found safe.
Alejandra, who had faked a pregnancy after suffering three miscarriages, was sentenced to 13 years in prison for the abduction. Mayra's daughter was returned to her without harm and is now a happy and healthy teenager.
Mayra's Response
Mayra said in the documentary: "I don't think I can ever forgive her." She also stated that Alejandra has not shown remorse for her actions. The courts found no credibility in Alejandra's version of events, with a prison psychiatrist suggesting she had experienced a form of dissociation.
Since her release from prison, Alejandra has admitted to "breaking the law, lying, deceiving, causing pain."
