A star-studded dystopian thriller starring Tom Hiddleston has found a new streaming home in the UK. The film, titled High-Rise, is now available on Prime Video for subscribers or those signing up for a free 30-day trial.
Directed by Ben Wheatley, High-Rise is based on JG Ballard's 1975 novel of the same name. Set in a London luxury tower block, the film follows Dr Robert Laing (Hiddleston) as he moves into the building after his sister's death. He soon becomes acquainted with his neighbours, who are divided by class: the wealthy reside in chic upper-floor apartments, while those on lower floors live in more modest flats.
As residents have little reason to leave the tower, tensions simmer beneath the surface, turning the building into a chaotic, high-pressure environment. The cast includes Sienna Miller as Charlotte Melville, who begins a relationship with Laing, and Luke Evans and Elisabeth Moss as married couple Richard and Helen Wilder. Jeremy Irons plays the building's architect, Anthony Royal, with Keeley Hawes as his wife Ann.
High-Rise premiered in 2015 to mostly positive reviews, earning a 60% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics praised its 1970s-inspired world-building, though the consensus noted it doesn't "quite live up to its classic source material". Nonetheless, it was described as "an energetic, well-acted, and thought-provoking take on its timely socioeconomic themes". IGN gave the film a 7 out of 10, calling it an "enjoyably dark and disturbing adaptation".
