Adapted from a Best-Selling Novel
Kill Jackie has been adapted from the best-selling novel The Price You Pay by author Nick Harkaway, writing under the pen name Aidan Truhen. The book, which originally featured a male protagonist, has been gender-swapped for the TV adaptation.
A summary from Prime Video reads: “Jackie Price (Zeta-Jones) has been living a luxurious existence for the last twenty years – travelling the world, selling fine art and, above all, trying to stay anonymous after escaping a dangerous past as an international drug smuggler. But just as life starts to feel a little boring, it takes a sudden lethal turn when she discovers that The Seven Demons, a squad of the world’s most terrifying hitmen, have been hired to kill her. Assuming someone from her past is behind it, Jackie unleashes her old instincts and embarks on a wild, dangerous game plan: to take down The Demons one by one before they kill her. However, she soon realises her own demons are much more terrifying than the ruthless killers on her trail…and her buried secrets lead her closer to home, with surprising consequences.”
Reader Praise for the Source Material
Many readers have previously praised the novel. One person posted in their five-star review on GoodReads: “This book is cracking. From the opening to the closing it is brilliantly witty, indelibly violently funny and I don’t think I’ve inappropriately giggled and indeed laughed out loud at so many twisted, dark and horrible things as I have whilst reading this book. Ever.”
A second all-star review stated: “Just great, high octane, nonstop, kill bill by way of tom and jerry. A voice like a black hole, pulling you into its orbit. Stunning work.” Another person wrote: “Best book of the year, so far. Violent, profane, and crazy. It real is Tarantino or early Guy Ritchie on speed.”
Kill Jackie will be released on Prime Video on October 2.
