Kelvin Fletcher Looks to Future as Farming Series Wraps

Former soap star turned farmer Kelvin Fletcher has declared that the conclusion of his television series marks merely "the beginning of a new chapter" rather than an end. The final episode of Fletcher's Family Farm, which aired on ITV, showcased both the triumphs and tribulations of agricultural life, with Fletcher openly discussing his ongoing ambitions.

From Setback to Supply Chain Success

During the episode, Fletcher revealed that his initial attempt to grow oats suitable for porridge had not met the necessary standards due to insufficient summer rainfall, which prevented the crop from plumping up adequately before harvest. However, this did not equate to failure. Instead, the oats were repurposed as high-protein animal feed, entering the supply chain and being distributed to other farms across the country.

"It feels quite a proud moment that our little farm has somewhat kind of gone into the supply chain to produce something for many other farms," Fletcher remarked, expressing unexpected satisfaction. "These are the little moments you can't even imagine when you first start out."

Preparations and Future Aspirations

The episode also documented Fletcher's farm preparing for its first event of the year: a local farmers' market. With everything in place ahead of schedule, he was able to focus on other tasks, including taking delivery of specialized homegrown feed to boost his livestock's protein intake.

Holding a bag of the feed, Fletcher explained, "Somewhere in there are oats from our farm, and farms locally and maybe around the country. We've all played a part in producing this." He noted the positive reception from his cows, humorously awarding a "five-star review from Ray and Crowther."

A Determined Vision for Fletcher's Oats

Despite the setback, Fletcher's resolve remains unshaken. He emphatically stated, "That's not the end of oats. It's just the beginning. It might be the end of that particular chapter, but oats are still yet to be conquered." Looking ahead with confidence, he added, "This is oats part one, mark my words, we'll be having Fletcher porridge oats. I don't doubt that for a second."

The series, which has followed Fletcher's transition from television actor to farmer, is available for streaming on ITVX, offering viewers an intimate look at the realities of modern farming and one man's persistent pursuit of agricultural success.
