Comedian Katherine Ryan has claimed she was fired from a West End musical just weeks before she was due to make her stage debut, after a producer in America heard her sing.
Eight shows a week with a newborn
The 43-year-old, one of the biggest names in comedy, said she had been offered a small part in a London stage show and was preparing to perform eight shows a week. However, shortly before the production began, she was cut from the cast.
In an interview, she explained: “I was almost going to do theatre. I was offered something recently with one caveat: that someone in America needed to hear me sing.”
“I was really excited, but I shouldn’t have said yes because it was eight shows a week when I had a newborn. Luckily, someone in America did hear my voice and they said no, and I got fired before it began.”

Although Katherine refrained from naming the show, she added to The Sun: “It was a musical that’s currently in the West End that opened in May.”
The Taskmaster star welcomed her fourth child, Holland, last year – her third with husband Bobby. The couple also share Fred and Fenna, while she is also mum to teenager Violet from a previous relationship.
Facelift after birth
Two months after giving birth to Holland, she opted for cosmetic surgery, having a full facelift. On her Telling Everybody Everything podcast, she said: “The surgery was a facelift. Yes, a full facelift – a little bit of fat transfer to my cheekbone area, and a small bleph[aroplasty].”
“A bleph is when they take a tiny bit of your eyelid skin, though not too much, and then they’ll usually, to avoid hollowness, put a little bit of fat back in there too. So I had some fat put in my upper face, my eyelids, and then I had a facelift.”
“Almost metaphorically, I needed to do something, to reclaim my identity, to reclaim my autonomy, to claw back the face that I had in 2019.”
Declaring that she’s not crazy, she added: “I’m not trying to wind it back to 2006. I’m just trying to look the way I did pre-COVID, pre-six pregnancies in five years.”
