The John Wick spin-off film Ballerina, starring Ana de Armas, has arrived on Prime Video in the UK as of today, 10 January. The 2025 action film follows Eve Macarro, a ballerina trained as an assassin by the Ruska Roma, as she seeks revenge for her father's murder.
Directed by Len Wiseman, the film grossed over $137 million worldwide during its theatrical release in June. The cast includes Gabriel Byrne, Norman Reedus, and Catalina Sandino Moreno, alongside returning John Wick franchise actors Keanu Reeves, Ian McShane, Anjelica Huston, and the late Lance Reddick.
Critics have given Ballerina a 75% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes from 306 reviews, with an audience score of 92%. The critical consensus describes it as equipping de Armas with "creatively brutal action choreography" and a "pleasingly kooky origin story."
Digital Spy's three-star review praised the "near-constant action" and de Armas's performance, noting that when she wields a flamethrower or uses grenades creatively, "you don't miss Wick one bit." The New Statesman called it "superb – a tight two hours of deeply stressful action."
Other upcoming John Wick spin-offs include a film focusing on Donnie Yen's Caine and an animated prequel. Ballerina joins the prequel series The Continental, which streamed on Prime Video in 2023.
