Joan Cusack made a rare red carpet appearance at the London premiere of Toy Story 5, marking her first such event in 11 years. The 63-year-old actress, last seen on the red carpet at the 2015 Emmy Awards, wore a white button-up shirt tucked into a high-waisted black maxi skirt, accessorised minimally with a neatly styled brunette bob.
She was accompanied by her husband of 30 years, Richard Burke, a lawyer dressed in a white shirt, grey trousers and a black blazer. Cusack's last onscreen role was in 2019's Let It Snow, and she has largely stepped away from Hollywood to run a gift shop in Chicago and raise her two sons.
In Toy Story 5, Cusack reprises her role as Jessie, who takes over as the lead character from Woody. Director Andrew Stanton told MovieWeb: 'Jessie was just so prime... to deal with the stuff that’s gone on with her, and she was so ready to be the next leader of the toys in the room.' The film's synopsis reads: 'This time it's Toy meets Tech. Buzz, Woody, Jessie and the rest of the gang's jobs are challenged when they're introduced to what kids are obsessed with today... electronics!'
Cusack rose to fame in the 1980s with roles in Class, Sixteen Candles, Say Anything… and Working Girl, later earning acclaim for Addams Family Values, School of Rock and Shameless, for which she won an Emmy in 2017. She has been married to Burke since 1994 and has two sons, Miles and Dylan.
