ITV Look Into My Eyes release date and true crime doc details

The true crime documentary series Look Into My Eyes will premiere on ITVX on Tuesday, August 18, exploring whether a high school principal's hypnosis of students could have contributed to the deaths of three of them.

Release date and episode count

The four-part series, part of the True Crime Story franchise, originally aired in June 2023 on SundanceTV and AMC+ in the US. Each episode runs approximately 40 minutes to an hour, and the full boxset will be available on the release day.

What the series covers

The documentary centres on Dr George Kenney, former principal of North Port High School in Sarasota, Florida. Kenney hypnotised students to help with test anxiety and athletic performance, with footage showing one-to-one sessions and classroom demonstrations. Reports indicate he hypnotised around 70 students over five years.

After three 16-year-old students died one month after another following hypnosis, an investigation was launched. No charges were brought over the deaths; Kenney accepted a plea deal on a misdemeanour charge of practising hypnosis without a licence.

Families' settlement and reactions

The families of the three students received $200,000 in a wrongful death settlement. A spokesman for Sarasota County Schools called it "mutually acceptable" and "in the best interests of all parties involved". NBC News reported the families said they were "satisfied with the overall outcome, although this is a very hollow victory".

The series examines the "events leading up to their untimely deaths and the tragic aftermath". In the trailer, one parent tearfully says: "This man has ruined my life," while another man states: "This man just wanted to help."
