ITV has confirmed that the crime thriller After the Flood will not return for a third series, despite its popularity with viewers.
No plans for third series
The broadcaster said there are “no plans” to bring back the show, which starred Sophie Rundle as PC Joanna Marshall. The first series began in 2024, following police investigating a man found dead in an underground car park after a catastrophic flood.
The second series aired earlier this year, with Jill Halfpenny joining the cast as DS Sam Bradley. Set a year after the flood, it saw Jo, now a detective, investigating another baffling case.
Fan and cast reactions
Viewers praised the show, with one fan posting on IMDb.com: “Couldn't turn it off! Amazing. Had me hooked from the very start, I didn't even mean to start watching it, it just came on and it hooked me and I binge watched both seasons within two days.” Another called it “excellent”, adding: “It's about the best thing on TV at the moment. Well acted, full of tension and drama.”
On Reddit, one person called it a “riveting series”, while a Rotten Tomatoes user remarked: “A gripping series well presented and well acted.” Cast members Matt Stokoe and Nicholas Gleaves, who play Detective Pat Holman and Sergeant Phil Mackie, had previously said they were keen for another instalment. “There are unanswered questions at the end of season two,” said Nicholas. “So hopefully we will get to come back.”
