Hollywood stars gathered in New York for an exclusive screening of the comedy horror film Buddy, which is set for release in the United States on August 28. The film, starring Keegan-Michael Key, was shown at the opening night of the Scary Movies XIV festival.
Buddy's Dark Turn
Keegan-Michael Key, known for presenting America's Funniest Home Videos, plays Buddy the Unicorn, a beloved children's TV character struggling to stay relevant. As the film progresses, a group of children become trapped in the TV studio where the show It's Buddy is filmed, along with other characters, including a rabbit.
When the children refuse to cooperate, Buddy's caring nature fades, revealing a more sinister personality. The kids must escape before Buddy, now turned evil, kills them all.
Stars at the Premiere
Key posed with Buddy, the large orange unicorn villain, alongside festival organiser Maddie Whittle. Other attendees included Delaney Quinn, who plays Freddy, and producer Raphael Margules. Director Casper Kelly and executive producer Tyler Davidson also supported the film.
The film has already received praise from critics, holding an 82% score on Rotten Tomatoes from screenings at the Sundance Film Festival. A specific UK release date has not yet been announced.
