An abandoned Victorian platform beneath Glasgow Central Station has been turned into a pop-up cinema for Halloween, with horror classics screening daily until Friday, October 30, and tickets still available for every showing.
The underground venue, which has remained untouched since 1964, originally opened in 1896 and operated as a new line through the city, connecting with fellow ghost stations Botanic Gardens and Kelvin Bridge. Passengers were once plunged into darkness as they waited to board trains, and the platform became a haven for crime as thieves lurked in the shadows.
Rediscovered Platform Hosts Spooky Screenings
After lying dormant for years, the Victorian platform was rediscovered by tour organiser and station historian Paul Lyons. Members of the public can now explore the historical underground station, and this Halloween it has been transformed into a pop-up cinema.
Hosted by the Track to the Future team in support of The King's Trust, the event combines classic Halloween films with a fundraising cause. The pop-up cinema screened its first film on Thursday evening, with more showings scheduled for the following week.
Film Line-Up and Ticket Details
Running until Friday, October 30, the horror film screenings include Beetlejuice, Scream, A Quiet Place, Practical Magic, Creep and A Nightmare on Elm Street. Tickets are priced at £18 each per film, with availability across all screenings.
One Scottish TikToker who attended a film earlier in the week shared a video of her and a team heading below Glasgow Central to the pop-up cinema. Guided by a Network Rail worker, the group was taken underground to a basement from the lower ground platforms to watch a projector screening of the 1980s film The Fog. The clip shows the room kitted out with Halloween decorations and Portaloos for guests to use.
Fundraising Goal and Screening Schedule
Replying to the video in the comments, one wrote: "This is so cool." A second echoed: "Quality idea!"
The pop-up cinema is hosted by Team Track to the Future from Network Rail, who are running a series of events to raise funds for The King's Trust through the Million Makers Money challenge. These events are estimated to raise £24,000 in total, to be donated before March 2027.
