Guardian Wins Fourth Emmy for Along the Green Line Documentary Series
Guardian Wins Fourth Emmy for Along the Green Line

The Guardian has won a News & Documentary Emmy Award for Along the Green Line in the category of Outstanding Continuing Coverage, Long Form. This marks the fourth Emmy win for the Guardian, recognizing the newsroom's continued investment in ambitious multimedia reporting on some of the most urgent global crises of our time.

About the Documentary

Produced by a diverse crew of Israeli, Palestinian and international film-makers, including reporter Matthew Cassel, producer and editor Kyri Evangelou, cinematographer Ayman Abu Ramouz, fixer Guy Barak and editor Frances Rankin, the series intimately captures the experiences of people living on either side of the 'green line' — the 1949 armistice border established during the Oslo accords. It reveals how physical barriers, dehumanizing rhetoric and the emotional toll of the conflict have affected their lives.

Filmed amid military incursions, checkpoints and ongoing violence, the three-part series ultimately exposes how propaganda and fear have made historic ambitions for peace increasingly disconnected from the reality of those living on the ground.

A Legacy of Award-Winning Journalism

This award marks the Guardian's fourth time winning a News & Documentary Emmy. Previous Emmy-winning work includes the Guardian's groundbreaking coverage of Edward Snowden's National Security Agency (NSA) revelations in 2014, the deadly US immigration crisis in 2015, and the plight of Libyan asylum seekers seeking safe passage to Europe in 2022. Additionally, the Guardian Documentaries' film Give Me Shelter, which examines the growing intersection of child exploitation and social media, was recognized as a 2026 nominee in Outstanding Short Documentary.

Reactions from the Guardian Team

Temujin Doran, the Guardian's acting head of video, said: 'Along the Green Line was made under incredibly difficult circumstances by teams who were utterly dedicated to truthful, humane storytelling. To see this work recognized by the Emmys on a global stage is hugely meaningful and reflects the Guardian's commitment to create space for nuanced journalism during a period of profound conflict.'

Katharine Viner, the Guardian's editor-in-chief, commented: 'At the Guardian, we believe documentary film-making is a powerful way to engage audiences around the world and illuminate complex issues with depth, humanity and nuance. Along the Green Line exemplifies this mission at its very best, combining deeply reported journalism with bold multimedia innovation. My hearty congratulations to Temujin Doran, Matthew Cassel, Kyri Evangelou, Ayman Abu Ramouz and the rest of the team on this magnificent honor from the News & Documentary Emmy Awards.'
