Jordan Peele's Oscar-winning horror film Get Out will be broadcast on television tonight, nearly a decade after its debut. The 2017 feature, written and directed by Peele in his first outing as a director, remains relevant and powerful.

The film follows Chris Washington (Daniel Kaluuya), a young Black photographer who visits the home of his white girlfriend, Rose (Allison Williams). What begins as an anticipated uncomfortable encounter escalates into a disturbing chain of events, as Chris observes the increasingly peculiar conduct of the Armitage family's Black household workers and unnerving guests.
The narrative builds to a chilling discovery about the family's true motives, blending psychological terror with social critique on race relations, discrimination and privilege.

In the weeks after its release, Get Out earned $255.5 million globally against a $4.5 million budget. It received four Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor (Kaluuya), ultimately winning Best Original Screenplay. Peele became only the third filmmaker to secure Best Picture, Director and Screenplay Oscar nominations simultaneously.
On Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds a near-flawless 98% approval rating, with praise centring on its atmosphere. One fan noted: "The unsettling atmosphere and gradual tension are matched by a sharp exploration of racism, privilege, and the way prejudice can hide behind seemingly polite behaviour."
